Quick freight cost estimator
Need a number before you start calling carriers? Enter a few details for an instant ballpark range for truckload or LTL freight.
The estimator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent or stored.
How the estimate is calculated
Truckload: distance × an all-in rate per mile (including fuel), with a minimum charge for short trips. The default rates are example figures for a typical market; change them to match what you've been quoted recently. The range shown runs from about 15% below to 20% above the calculated figure, because real rates swing with season, lane balance and lead time.
LTL: a simplified hundredweight model that increases with distance and freight class, plus an assumed fuel surcharge and typical accessorial fees. Real LTL tariffs are lane-specific and most shippers receive negotiated discounts, so treat the LTL number as a sanity check only.
This is a planning tool, not a quote. For a bookable price, gather the details in our freight quote checklist and request quotes from carriers or brokers.
What moves the real price
- Lane balance: deliveries into areas with little outbound freight cost more.
- Lead time: same-day and next-day loads carry a premium.
- Season: produce season, holiday retail peaks and month-end all tighten capacity.
- Equipment: reefers and flatbeds cost more to run than dry vans.
- Accessorials: stops, detention, tarps, liftgates and appointments.
- Diesel prices: fuel surcharges are recalculated weekly or monthly.
